About Joey

Joey Clift is a Los Angeles-based, Peabody and 2x Emmy Award-nominated comedian, writer, director, producer and enrolled member of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe.

Joey attended college to become a local TV weather person because as a kid he didn’t see any Native American comedians on television, and that made him believe he wasn’t allowed to work in comedy. Since then he has learned that this is not true – and his comedy style reflects that. Joey’s work has been featured in The Washington Post, Pitchfork, NPR, Dead Meat, Dropout and Comedy Central.

As a television writer, Joey has written for shows such as Spirit Rangers on Netflix, Molly of Denali on PBS, Lego Ninjago: Decoded on Cartoon Network, Smartypants and Toonout on Dropout, and Paw Patrol and Rubble & Crew on Nickelodeon. Joey Clift created Gone Native, a Webby Award-winning Comedy Central Digital series featuring many of today’s top Native American comedians, and his short films have screened everywhere from Just For Laughs to the Smithsonian Museum.

Joey’s first book, We’ve Been Here The Whole Time! A Not So Sacred Guide to All Things Native America is available in bookstores everywhere. Check out some of Joey Clift’s favorite podcast appearances, follow him all across social media, or join his email list to keep up-to-date on his tours, films and all the things.
