Gone Native is a series of comedic digital shorts that shines a satirical light on some of the unfortunate, ignorant microaggressions that many Native people experience. Joey created, wrote, and directed the series, and it features many of today’s top Native comedians and Native American comedic actors, including Jana Schmieding (Rutherford Falls, Reservation Dogs), Román Zaragoza (Ghosts), Siena East (Sex Lives Of College Girls), and Tai Leclaire (Headdress).
Gone Native was funded in part by Pop Culture Collaborative’s Becoming America grant, distributed by Comedy Central across their social platforms, and went on to win the Yes And Laughter Lab, Anthem, Webby, and Shorty Impact Awards. The five shorts received a combined seven million views across social media and have been featured by media outlets including NPR’s All Things Considered, Live Wire with Luke Burbank, Yahoo’s In The Know, ICT, Salon, Vulture, and The Washington Post.
